Profiled punches and dies are used to manufacture gearing without any cutting processes. The accuracy of these tools is directly transferred to the workpiece.
Size allowances are incorporated into the tool to accommodate for shrinkages. The specified spark gaps for electrodes are maintained. Electrodes are usually made from copper.
